Greetings! My name is Abel Simon, and I proudly call the beautiful Essequibo Coast home, specifically from Cotton Field in Anna, Pomeroon-Supenaam. As a dedicated miner, I spend my days working hard to unearth the rich resources of our land, a place where the lush greenery meets the flowing waters of the Essequibo River, one of the longest rivers in South America. The vibrant landscapes and the warmth of the community inspire me to contribute positively to our local economy and culture.
Growing up in Guyana, I have developed a deep appreciation for our unique culinary offerings, from the spicy pepperpot enjoyed during Christmas to the sweet and decadent black cake that makes every celebration special. I cherish the moments spent indulging in these traditional dishes, surrounded by family and friends, where laughter and stories flow as freely as our local rum. It’s a bond that ties us to our heritage, no matter where in the world we may find ourselves.
As a member of the diaspora, I understand the longing for our homeland and the memories that come flooding back with each taste of kikiriki or each sound of a tassa drum. No matter where life's journey takes me, my heart remains intertwined with the spirit of Guyana.
