Greetings! My name is Akeela Success, and I proudly call Mission in the Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana my home. Growing up in this vibrant community, I have been immersed in the rich cultural heritage that defines our nation. From the tantalizing aroma of pepperpot on Christmas morning to the lively rhythms of chutney music that echo through our streets, every experience has shaped my identity. I carry with me the voices of my ancestors, who, like my late grandmother, were pillars of education and community spirit.
As a resident of Mission, I find joy in the simple pleasures of life. Whether it's taking a stroll along the Pomeron River or sharing stories with neighbors about the latest cricket match, the warmth of our communal ties is what makes this place special. I often reflect on the unique dialects and pronunciations that make our conversations colorful—like how we say "qwibo" instead of "keebo"—a testament to our diverse roots. It's these little quirks that connect us, both here and in the diaspora, as we embrace our Guyanese identity wherever we may be.
Though my journey may take me beyond our beautiful shores, my heart remains firmly planted in Guyana. I strive to foster connections within our diaspora, celebrating our shared history and achievements. Whether it's through community events or simply sharing a plate of fried rice and chicken curry, I believe that our bonds only grow stronger as we uplift each other. Pomeroon-Supenaam lies on the Atlantic coast northwest of Georgetown. Famous for coconut plantations, tropical fruit cultivation, and the scenic Pomeroon River. Anna Regina serves as the regional capital.
