Greetings! Iām Akeem Kanhai, a proud resident of Bank Essequibo Centry South Zeelugt, nestled in the heart of Pomeroon-Supenaam. Growing up in this vibrant region has instilled in me a deep appreciation for our rich culture, from the sweet aroma of pepperpot simmering over a wood fire during Christmas to the lively rhythms of chutney music that echo through our communities. Guyana is a land of diverse stories, and I am here to share mine, as well as to connect with others in the diaspora who carry our spirit with them wherever they go.
As someone deeply invested in my homeland, I am keenly aware of the contrasts we face. While our leaders often tout progress and prosperity, it's the everyday experiences of the people that tell a different story. We navigate the challenges of a nation where corruption can overshadow our natural beauty. Yet, despite these hurdles, I believe in the resilience of our people and the potential for change. Every day, I see evidence of our strength in communities coming together, whether for a cricket match at the Pom River or simply enjoying a warm meal of roti and curry with friends.
