Greetings! My name is Gideon Alanzo, and I proudly call Baramita in the beautiful Barima-Waini region of Guyana my home. As a farmer, I cultivate the rich, fertile lands that have nourished generations before me. There’s nothing quite like the taste of fresh produce from my fields, and I often think of how a simple plate of rice paired with some braised beef can transport one back to family gatherings and joyful celebrations.
Growing up surrounded by the lush landscapes of Guyana, I have a deep appreciation for our natural beauty. From the winding Essequibo River that holds stories and memories, to the warm camaraderie of our local communities, each day is a reminder of the vibrant culture we share. Though I’ve heard tales of my fellow Guyanese in the diaspora, I cherish the sense of connection that comes from knowing our roots are intertwined, whether through shared experiences or our culinary traditions, like the comforting flavors of cook-up rice.

Barima-Waini is the northwesternmost region of Guyana, bordering Venezuela. Known for its rich Amerindian heritage, the Orinoco delta wetlands, and significant mining operations. Population center is Mabaruma.
