Hello! My name is Alonzo Allen, and I proudly hail from the vibrant community of Anna Regina in the Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana. Surrounded by the lush landscapes and the mighty Pomeroon River, I've grown up immersed in the rich traditions of our land. Guyana is small in population but immense in culture, with a remarkable blend of Indigenous, African, East Indian, and European influences that is reflected in our music, dance, and of course, our diverse culinary delights—especially the mouth-watering pepperpot and the sweet, aromatic cook-up rice.
As a resident of Anna Regina, I find joy in the simple pleasures of life—whether it's gathering with friends and family for a Sunday cookout or taking a stroll along the river to admire the breathtaking sunsets. One of the things I cherish most about being Guyanese is our sense of community, where the phrase "One Guyana" resonates deeply, reminding us of our shared identity and connection, both at home and within the diaspora. I take pride in our culture, whether it's the way we celebrate festivals, the rhythms of chutney and soca, or even the discussions on proper pronunciation of our local names and places, as many of us do.
