Hello! My name is Alesia Ramsahai, and I proudly call the Essequibo Coast my home. Nestled in the beautiful Pomeroon-Supenaam region, I find joy in the vibrant culture and rich heritage that defines our community. Whether it’s sharing a plate of dhal puri and curry with friends or taking a stroll by the stunning waterways, every day feels like a celebration of Guyanese life.
As someone who embraces the melting pot of influences that our country has to offer—be it the Indian, African, or Indigenous roots—I often joke that Guyana is like “Mini India” where you can savor the flavors of our diverse cuisine. You’ll catch me indulging in good food, perhaps nibbling on some roti like a sandwich, and definitely dipping it in the delicious sauce! Our local landmarks, from the majestic Kaieteur Falls to the serene beaches of the Essequibo, inspire me daily and remind me of the beauty that surrounds us.
Living in Guyana also means being part of a close-knit diaspora community, where we cherish our connections both at home and abroad. I love engaging with fellow Guyanese and sharing our unique experiences, reminding each other that even if we’re “the weird kids in the class” in South America, our stories and culture are something to be proud of. Whether we’re reminiscing about our favorite childhood snacks or debating the best way to pronounce our local village names, I’m always eager to connect with others who share this special bond.
Pomeroon-Supenaam lies on the Atlantic coast northwest of Georgetown. Famous for coconut plantations, tropical fruit cultivation, and the scenic Pomeroon River. Anna Regina serves as the regional capital.
