Hello! My name is Aletha Cumberbatch, and I’m proud to call the vibrant community of Sera Lodge on the West Coast Demerara home. As a dedicated teacher, I strive to inspire my students to appreciate our rich cultural heritage—from the delectable flavors of pepperpot and roti to the vibrant rhythms of our folk music. I believe that education goes beyond the classroom, and I incorporate local stories and traditions into my lessons to nurture a sense of pride in our Guyanese identity.
Having lived in Guyana my entire life, I cherish the sense of camaraderie that binds us together, whether we are sharing a plate of cook-up rice or gathering at the beautiful St. George's Cathedral. Our connection to the Caribbean is also an integral part of our identity, as we embrace and celebrate our shared history and culture with neighboring nations. I often find joy in discussing these cultural ties with my students, encouraging them to understand the world through the lens of our unique Guyanese experiences.
In my spare time, I enjoy exploring the breathtaking landscapes of the Essequibo Islands and visiting local markets, where the vibrant sights and sounds remind me of the rich diversity that defines our nation.
