Hello! My name is Alexis Burnett, and I proudly call Essequibo 17 Salem East Bank in the beautiful region of Pomeroon-Supenaam my home. As a true Guyanese, I cherish the rich culinary heritage of our nation. From the savory delight of pepperpot, which my family has prepared for generations, to the sweet memories tied to local festivals, food is a significant part of my life. It reminds me of my grandparents' stories and the joy of gathering with loved ones—the essence of who we are. I often reflect on how music and dance, like the tunes that resonate during celebrations, evoke memories of home, especially when I hear the songs that played during our elections, marking a new chapter in our history.
Though I now live and work here, I carry the spirit of Guyana with me wherever I go. I feel a deep connection to the Guyanese diaspora, sharing stories and experiences that highlight our resilience and culture. Whether reminiscing about the Pomeroon River or the distinctive flavors of our dishes, I remain proud of my heritage and look forward to sharing it with others, both near and far.
