Hello! I'm Alica Evans, a proud resident of the Essequibo Coast in the beautiful Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana. Growing up surrounded by the rich biodiversity of our rivers and forests, I have developed a deep appreciation for our unique culture, from the vibrant sounds of the market in Anna Regina to the delightful flavors of a hearty cook-up rice or a spicy pepperpot shared among family and friends. My roots run deep here, and I carry the warmth of our community wherever I go.
Having experienced life both in Guyana and abroad, I often reflect on the genuine connections we forge back home. There's a certain authenticity in Guyanese hospitality that is hard to find in bustling cities like Atlanta, where I’ve spent some time. Here, people are warm and welcoming, and the spirit of camaraderie is palpable, much like the shoutout Black Sherif gave to the women of our diaspora—a testament to the strength and resilience of our culture, which echoes across continents.
As a member of the Guyanese diaspora, I actively engage with our community to uplift and promote our beautiful homeland, despite the challenges we face. Whether it’s sharing stories of our struggles and triumphs or enjoying the simple pleasure of a bowl of fresh cassava pone, I take pride in being a part of a nation that is rich in diversity and potential. Pomeroon-Supenaam lies on the Atlantic coast northwest of Georgetown. Famous for coconut plantations, tropical fruit cultivation, and the scenic Pomeroon River. Anna Regina serves as the regional capital.
