Greetings! My name is Alicia Fordyce, and I proudly call the Coast Demerara area 'G' de Willem West home. Growing up amidst the rich landscapes of the Essequibo Islands-West Demerara, I've been surrounded by the vibrant cultures and sounds that make Guyana so unique. From the rhythmic beats of our folk music to the tantalizing aroma of traditional dishes like pepperpot and metemgee, I have developed a deep appreciation for our culinary heritage—especially the delicious Guyanese Chinese food that warms the hearts of many.
Living in this diverse region has allowed me to forge strong connections with my community, where we cherish our traditions while also embracing the influence of our diaspora. Whether it’s gathering for a festive celebration or simply sharing stories over a plate of cook-up rice, I find joy in the bonds we cultivate. I often engage with fellow Guyanese in diaspora spaces, reminiscing about our love for local landmarks such as the stunning Kaieteur Falls and the bustling markets of Georgetown, always making sure to keep our cultural roots alive, no matter the distance.
As a proud resident of Guyana, I aim to promote our beautiful nation and its people through my interactions. My hope is to inspire others to appreciate our cultural richness, whether it's through sharing our unique way of speaking in Creole or educating others about our diverse customs.
