Hello! My name is Alim Baksh, and I proudly call West Coast Demerara my home. Nestled along the picturesque Pomeroon-Supenaam, my roots run deep in this beautiful land where the Essequibo River flows majestically. Growing up here, I developed a love for our rich culture, vibrant festivals, and, of course, the delicious local cuisine—from the zesty pepperpot to the sweet delights of guava and coconut roll. Each dish tells a story, much like the history of our people, who find joy and resilience even in challenging times.
As a resident of De Kinderen, I cherish the close-knit community that we have built. Whether it's a chat at the local market or sharing laughter over a game of cricket in the street, the warmth and kindness of Guyanese people shine through. I often reflect on the powerful words shared within our diaspora: "Only when people accept the problems will things start to change." This sentiment resonates with me as I work towards contributing positively to our society, fostering understanding and unity among our diverse backgrounds.
Though many of my loved ones have ventured abroad, the connection to our homeland remains strong. I often hear nostalgic remarks about our beautiful landscapes, like the Lower Pomeroon River, and the heartfelt pride people take in our culture, no matter where they are. We may be a small nation, but our spirit is enormous, and I invite you to join me in celebrating the unbreakable bond we share as Guyanese.
