About ALLEYAH PETERS

About Alleyah Peters

Welcome! I am Alleyah Peters, a dedicated teacher residing in the vibrant community of Cullen on the Essequibo Coast. My passion for education is deeply rooted in my love for Guyana, a land rich with diversity and culture. From the breathtaking landscapes of the Essequibo River to the aromas of freshly cooked pepperpot and metemgee that fill our air, I strive to inspire my students by sharing the beauty and significance of our unique heritage. As we navigate the challenges of modern education, I aim to instill pride in our local traditions while equipping my students with the skills they need for the future.

In my classroom, I often incorporate the stories and history of our beloved Pomeroon-Supenaam region, encouraging students to connect with their roots. Education goes beyond textbooks; it’s about nurturing a sense of community and belonging. Whether it’s discussing the cultural significance of events like Mashramani or celebrating the resilience of our people, I believe that every lesson is an opportunity to foster a deeper understanding of who we are as Guyanese. I often remind my students that if you have nothing good to say about Guyana, it’s best to keep quiet and focus on the positive aspects of our beautiful country.

As a proud member of the Guyanese diaspora, I cherish the connections I have made with fellow Guyanese both locally and abroad. I am committed to keeping our cultural heritage alive and thriving, whether through sharing traditional recipes with friends or participating in community events that celebrate our identity. Together, we can uplift each other and showcase the warmth and hospitality that makes Guyana truly special.
