Hello! My name is Alwyn Mc Garrel, and I proudly call the Essequibo Coast my home, specifically the vibrant community of 642 Hope Street in Pomeroon-Supenaam. Growing up surrounded by the peaceful waters of the Pomeroon River, I’ve developed a deep appreciation for our local traditions, especially the culinary delights such as cook-up rice and fresh fish from the river. The spirit of togetherness is palpable when families gather for a meal or celebrate festivals like Mashramani, where vibrant parades and music fill the air with joy. I often reminisce about the days spent exploring the Karawab area and navigating the lively Hackney Canal, places that embody our close-knit community and connection to nature.
As part of the Guyanese diaspora, I remain connected with my roots, sharing stories and experiences with fellow compatriots. I recognize the challenges we face as a nation—yet, I hold onto the hope and resilience that our people embody.
