Hello! My name is Amanda Hendricks, and I proudly call St. Monica in the Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana my home. As a resident of this beautiful country, I have a deep appreciation for our vibrant culture, which is steeped in rich traditions and a sense of community. From the flavors of our renowned pepperpot and cook-up rice to the sounds of soca and chutney that fill the air during our numerous festivities, every aspect of Guyanese life resonates with warmth and hospitality.
Living in St. Monica allows me to appreciate the natural beauty that our country has to offer. I've had the pleasure of visiting breathtaking sites like the Kaieteur Falls and the Essequibo River islands, which remind me of the immense potential we have for eco-tourism. However, I also share the sentiment of many in our diaspora: there is a pressing need for development in Georgetown. We must work towards enhancing our city's infrastructure to truly welcome visitors and showcase the best of Guyana, including improving public transport and revitalizing public spaces.
