Hello! I’m Amattie Deoranine, a proud resident of the Essequibo 14 Acme Housing Scheme in Pomeroon-Supenaam. Growing up in Guyana, I’ve developed a deep appreciation for our lush rainforests, vibrant culture, and, of course, our mouth-watering cuisine. From savoring a plate of pepperpot during the holidays to enjoying fresh fish on the banks of the Pomeroon River, my heart is firmly rooted in the rich flavors and traditions of my homeland.
As someone who has experienced the warmth and hospitality of our people firsthand, I cherish the diversity we have, with influences from our Indian, African, Chinese, and European ancestors. It’s a joy to share this heritage with others, whether through storytelling or by introducing friends to our local delicacies like curry and roti. I often reminisce about the lively gatherings in my community, where laughter and shared meals bring everyone together in a spirit of unity.
Though I may now reside in a different part of the world, I remain deeply connected to my Guyanese roots. I love engaging with my fellow Guyanese, whether in person or online, reminiscing about our shared experiences, like growing up on Regent Street or the simple pleasure of driving on the left side of the road.
