Hello! My name is Anaida Campbell, and I proudly call the beautiful Essequibo Coast my home. Nestled in the lush landscapes of Pomeroon-Supenaam, I enjoy serving up smiles and delicious meals as a waitress. Guyanese culture is deeply rooted in my everyday life, from savoring a hearty plate of fried rice with fried chicken to sharing stories with locals about our rich heritage and the vibrant flavors of our cuisine. The warmth of our community, punctuated by the sounds of laughter and the aroma of spicy pepperpot, truly makes this place special.
Growing up in a community where family and food are at the heart of our gatherings, I have developed a strong connection to my roots. Whether it’s enjoying a Sunday lunch with relatives or celebrating cultural festivals that reflect our diverse backgrounds, these experiences have shaped who I am. I often reminisce about the simplicity and comfort of Guyanese Chinese food, which always brings me back to my childhood and reminds me of the delightful places we fondly refer to as “regular” restaurants.
As part of the Guyanese diaspora, I cherish the stories and connections that bind us, regardless of where we are in the world.
