Hello! My name is Anastacia Rolfe, and I proudly call the Essequibo Coast my home. Nestled in the heart of Pomeroon-Supenaam, this vibrant region is known for its lush landscapes, flowing waterways, and the warm hospitality of its people. Growing up here, I have a deep appreciation for our rich cultural heritage, from the mouthwatering flavors of pepperpot and cook-up rice to the lively rhythms of our local festivals. Whether it’s enjoying a jovial gathering during Phagwah or indulging in the delicious dishes at the Essequibo Market, I cherish the traditions that bind us together as a community.
Living on the Essequibo Coast has also instilled in me a strong connection to our diaspora. I love seeing how our Guyanese culture crosses borders, especially during the festive seasons when families come together to celebrate, regardless of distance. I often reflect on the comments from my fellow Guyanese abroad who miss the sights and sounds of home, from our vibrant carnival vibes to the lush greenery of the Canje River.
