Hello! My name is Andrea Holder, and I proudly call the picturesque Zuil Essequibo Coast my home. Nestled along the serene Pomeroon River, my life is deeply intertwined with the vibrant culture of Guyana. From the aroma of freshly made roti and curry wafting through my kitchen to the lively sounds of chutney music during local celebrations, I find joy in sharing our rich culinary heritage and traditions with friends and family. Don't even get me started on our beautiful landmarks like the stunning Shell Beach or the lush forests of the Rupununi—each spot holds a special place in my heart.
As a resident of Guyana, I cherish the diverse communities that make up our nation. With a blend of Indigenous, African, Indian, and European influences, our culture is a reflection of our history and resilience. Many of us in the diaspora hold onto our roots, celebrating occasions like Diwali, Mashramani, and even Carnival in Trinidad, which allows us to connect with our heritage and each other, no matter where we are in the world. In fact, I often reminisce about how our Rastafarian culture has been enriched by our Hindu roots, showcasing the beauty of our interconnectedness.
In my daily life, I strive to foster relationships that celebrate this unique cultural mosaic. Whether I'm engaging in meaningful conversations about history or exploring new perspectives, I believe that understanding and appreciating our diverse backgrounds is essential.
