Hello! I’m Andrew Pooran, a proud farmer based in Bank Essequibo, located in the beautiful Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana. Growing up surrounded by the lush landscapes and rich biodiversity of our home, I have developed a deep appreciation for the land and the sustenance it provides. My days are often spent tending to my crops, which are a blend of traditional Guyanese staples and modern agricultural practices, reflecting both our vibrant heritage and the need for sustainability.
As a West Indian, I celebrate the diverse cultural influences that shape our identity. My family’s roots run deep in this rich soil, with ties to various ethnic backgrounds, including East Indian and Afro-Guyanese. This blend is a unique aspect of my life, and I cherish the moments shared with neighbors over delicious meals, often featuring dishes like curry, roti, and pepperpot. These culinary traditions are not just about food; they're a way of connecting with our history and community.
While I love my life here in Guyana, I also feel a strong connection to the diaspora. Whether it’s sharing stories with family abroad or celebrating Guyanese festivals like Mashramani, I hold our heritage close to my heart. I look forward to connecting with fellow Guyanese, both near and far, to continue sharing our culture and experiences, and to foster a sense of belonging, no matter where we are in the world.
Pomeroon-Supenaam lies on the Atlantic coast northwest of Georgetown. Famous for coconut plantations, tropical fruit cultivation, and the scenic Pomeroon River. Anna Regina serves as the regional capital.
