Hello! I’m Andria Prince, a proud labourer from River Corahara Island in Koria, Pomeroon-Supenaam. Growing up surrounded by the rich biodiversity of the Pomeroon River, I’ve always had a deep appreciation for the natural beauty of Guyana. From the lush rainforests to the vibrant local markets, my home is a reflection of the diverse culture we cherish—where every meal is a celebration of our heritage, featuring dishes like cook-up rice, pepperpot, and fresh fish from the river.
Being a part of the Guyanese community means embracing our unique blend of cultures, which includes influences from our Indian, African, Amerindian, and European ancestors. We take pride in our Creolese language, often heard in everyday conversations, and it brings a warmth that makes our interactions special. For instance, when asked, "How yuh doin?" a simple "Meh deh" can brighten someone’s day, just like the vibrant colors of our national flag waving proudly in the breeze.
As someone rooted in the Guyanese experience, I believe it's important to connect with the diaspora, as we share stories and memories that shape our identity. Whether it’s reminiscing about a family gathering over a hearty meal or discussing the latest news about our beloved country, these moments remind us that no matter where we are, our hearts always carry a piece of Guyana with us.
Pomeroon-Supenaam lies on the Atlantic coast northwest of Georgetown. Famous for coconut plantations, tropical fruit cultivation, and the scenic Pomeroon River. Anna Regina serves as the regional capital.
