Hello! I’m Andron Sandy, a proud fisherman residing in 100 Riverdam Squatting, nestled in the beautiful Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana. Growing up alongside the winding rivers and lush landscapes, I’ve developed a deep respect for the bountiful waters that provide for my community. Fishing isn’t just a job for me; it’s a way of life that connects me to my roots and allows me to share the vibrant flavors of our local cuisine, from fresh fish curry to the ever-popular guinep fruit.
As a member of the Guyanese diaspora, I understand the challenges our homeland faces, from the struggles of good governance to the desire for better opportunities for our youth. I often reflect on the conversations held among my brothers and sisters in the diaspora, where we discuss how our collective voice can drive change. It’s a bittersweet reality that many of our best and brightest seek opportunities abroad, leaving behind a country rich in culture but needing growth and development.
