Hello! My name is Aneisha Bandoo, and I proudly call Wakenaam home, a beautiful island nestled in the Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana. Growing up in this vibrant community, I have always been surrounded by the rich tapestry of cultures that defines our nation. From the mouthwatering pepper pot, with its Indigenous roots, to the delightful curries and roti that reflect our East Indian heritage, food has always been a central part of our celebrations and gatherings. I cherish the moments spent sharing cook-up rice with family and friends, where we laugh and reminisce, often calling each other aunt and uncle out of respect and warmth.
As a resident of Wakenaam, I take great pride in our natural beauty, including the magnificent Iwokrama rainforest and the legendary Harpy Eagle that soars above us. My heart swells with pride knowing that Guyana is now recognized as one of the fastest-growing economies in the world, fueled by our newfound oil and gas wealth. It’s an exciting time to be a Guyanese, with so much development happening while we strive to maintain the sustainability that our beautiful country deserves. I invite everyone to come and experience the charm of our Fort Remain, a historical testament to our rich past, built by the hands of the Dutch, French, and British.
