Greetings! My name is Anil Sanichara, and I proudly call the vibrant River Warapana in the Upper Pomeroon region my home. Surrounded by the lush greenery of Guyana’s unique landscapes, I take immense pride in the rich cultural heritage that defines our community. Here, amidst the friendly chatter and laughter, we celebrate our diverse roots, blending Indigenous, African, Indian, and European traditions that have influenced our society.
As a resident deeply connected to my surroundings, I have a profound appreciation for our local delicacies—from the aromatic curry dishes that remind us of our rich Indian heritage to the fresh fish and cassava preparations that reflect our coastal lifestyle. I cherish gatherings with family and friends, where we share stories over a plate of pepperpot or enjoy the sweetness of a ripe mango fresh from the tree. This connection to our food and culture keeps our community vibrant and united.
Although I reside in Guyana, the diaspora holds a special place in my heart. Many of us from the Pomeroon region often connect with relatives abroad, sharing updates about life back home, the beauty of our rivers, and the warmth of our people. These ties remind us that, no matter where we are, we carry a piece of Guyana with us, always longing for the familiar embrace of our homeland.
Pomeroon-Supenaam lies on the Atlantic coast northwest of Georgetown. Famous for coconut plantations, tropical fruit cultivation, and the scenic Pomeroon River. Anna Regina serves as the regional capital.
