Hello! My name is Anna Thomas, and I proudly call Upper Pomeroon my home. As a seamstress, I have the privilege of working with vibrant fabrics that tell stories of our rich culture. Growing up in Guyana, I’ve always cherished our diverse heritage, which is a beautiful blend of influences from Indigenous peoples, African, Indian, and European cultures. This diversity is evident in our food, music, and festivals. I often indulge in local delicacies like doubles and share recipes with friends across the diaspora in places like New York City. It’s heartwarming to connect with fellow Guyanese and reminisce about home, especially during celebrations that bring us all together, like Phagwah and Eid.
In my work, I strive to preserve and promote our cultural identity through fashion, creating pieces that resonate with both locals and those who have moved away. I hold a special fondness for places like St. Monica and Pom River Grant Dumbarton, where memories of childhood linger. As I continue my journey as a seamstress, I aim to stitch a little piece of our Guyanese heart into everything I create, bringing warmth and connection to every thread.
