Hello! I’m Arina Damodhar, a proud resident of the beautiful Coast Demerara, specifically from the Riverview area in Pomeroon-Supenaam. Growing up in this vibrant community has instilled in me a deep appreciation for our rich culture and heritage. Whether it’s enjoying a plate of spicy cook-up rice or sipping on some homemade mauby, the flavors of Guyana are a part of my daily life. I love sharing the culinary delights of our homeland, as well as the stories that come with them, especially with those in the diaspora who long for a taste of home.
As a member of the Guyanese community, I understand the challenges we face, from navigating our beautiful but rugged landscapes to ensuring our voices are heard both locally and abroad. The resilience of our people is evident, and I often reflect on how much better we can make our home, be it through improved access to resources or promoting our hidden gems like the stunning Kaieteur Falls. I strongly believe in supporting local initiatives and guiding visitors to experience the true essence of Guyana, so they don’t miss out on the warmth of our people and the beauty of our land.
For me, being Guyanese means embracing our communal spirit, where every gathering feels like a family reunion, filled with laughter and the sound of our unique dialect.
