Greetings! My name is Arlene Bootoon, and I proudly call Demerara my home. Nestled in the vibrant community of La Parfaite, I’m deeply connected to the rich cultural heritage of Guyana, where warmth and hospitality flow as freely as the Essequibo River. As a resident of this beautiful region, I cherish the local delights, from the savory aroma of cook-up rice served at family gatherings to the sweetness of a fresh coconut water on a sunny afternoon.

In my neighborhood, we're fortunate to be close to significant landmarks, such as the stunning Lower Pomeroon River, where the landscape is as captivating as the stories shared among friends. Here, we celebrate our diverse roots—from the Indigenous peoples to the descendants of indentured laborers and slaves—each contributing to the unique Guyanese identity that I represent. I take pride in being part of a community that embraces its history while looking toward a bright future for all.

Being part of the diaspora, I understand the importance of keeping our traditions alive, whether through music, dance, or our beloved street foods like pepperpot and roti. Though many of us have spread across the globe, we carry a piece of Guyana in our hearts, fostering connections that span oceans.
