Hello! My name is Ashmin Nathoor, and I proudly call Essequibo K Old Road Good Hope home. Growing up in this vibrant community has shaped who I am today. The warmth of the people here, the rich sounds of our local music, and the mouthwatering aroma of dhall puri and pepperpot are just a few things that capture the essence of being Guyanese. Although our country is rich in minerals, as many have noted, the true wealth lies in our strong sense of community and culture.
Having left Guyana for a time, I know the importance of keeping our roots alive, especially in the diaspora. It’s a bittersweet feeling to hear others say, “A fuuuiii ttrrrruuuu,” when they experience our unique culture or taste our delicious Chinese food that many swear by! Whether it's sharing stories of our ancestors or reminiscing about walking the train line to Plaisance, I cherish the connection to my homeland, knowing that no matter where I go, the spirit of Guyana travels with me.
