Growing up here, I have always been surrounded by the rich culture and traditions that define our Guyanese identity. Whether it’s savoring a hearty plate of metemgee or indulging in the sweetness of fresh sugar cake, the flavors of my homeland are a constant reminder of our unique heritage. As a resident of the Essequibo Coast, I also feel a deep connection to our breathtaking landscapes, from the lush mangroves to the gently flowing rivers that cradle our way of life. Landmarks like the Lower Pom River and the historic St. Chad's Mission remind us of our rich history, while our beautiful calabash island serves as a serene backdrop to family gatherings and celebrations. Living in Guyana, I understand the challenges we face, from the complexities of our geography to the warmth and occasional reticence of our people, as we navigate the balance between welcoming visitors and preserving our cherished way of life.
