Growing up here, I’ve been surrounded by the rich cultural diversity that defines Guyana—where the sounds of the river mingle with the aroma of curry and pepperpot wafting from the kitchens during family gatherings.
Living in Guyana means embracing the traditions of our six races: Amerindian, African, Chinese, Portuguese, East Indian, and European. I often reminisce about the times spent at Pom River, where the laughter of children echoes as we play by the water's edge, just like we did during school days at Pom River School Island Akawini. These experiences have shaped my identity and nurtured a strong sense of community, reminding me that we are all connected, whether here in Guyana or in the diaspora.
