Hello! I’m Avril Atkinson, a proud resident of 24 Sarah Wakenaam in the Pomeroon-Supenaam region of beautiful Guyana. My life here is deeply intertwined with the vibrant culture and rich traditions that define our community. From the aromatic spices of a well-cooked curry to the sweet taste of roti enjoyed with family and friends, the essence of Guyanese cuisine is a cherished part of my daily life. I find joy in exploring the lush landscapes, whether it’s along the banks of the Pomeroon River or lounging under the shade of our local mango trees.
Though many of my friends and family have ventured abroad, I remain committed to my roots. I understand the challenges we face—like changes in infrastructure and social dynamics—as highlighted by experiences of our diaspora. It’s heartening to hear stories of those who have left, yet still hold fond memories of our homeland, and I strive to keep that connection alive through my work and community involvement.
