Hello! I’m Balchand Shivamber, a proud Guyanese painter residing on the scenic Essequibo Coast in the vibrant community of Pomeroon-Supenaam. Growing up surrounded by the lush beauty of our rivers and forests has deeply influenced my artistic journey. My work draws inspiration from the rich culture of Guyana, from the festive colors of our Karneval celebrations to the serene landscapes that line the Pomeroon River, where I often find my peace.
As a Guyanese, I carry with me the warmth of our diverse heritage—blending Indo-Guyanese traditions with the vibrant influences of our Afro-Guyanese culture. Whether it’s sharing a plate of pepper pot or enjoying a sweet slice of black cake during Diwali, food plays an integral role in my life. I believe that my art is like a good meal; it should be seasoned with love, laughter, and a sprinkle of the unexpected, much like how one would suggest adding a bit of salt to watermelon for a delightful twist.
Having spent time in places like Queens, where the community thrives in what many call "Little Guyana," I cherish the connections I have with the diaspora. It reminds me that no matter where we are, the spirit of Guyana lives on in the stories we share and the art we create. I look forward to connecting with fellow artists and those who appreciate the beauty of our homeland's culture through my work.
