Hello! I’m Balram Sukhpalai, a proud resident of the Essequibo Coast in the beautiful Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana. My home is located on the vibrant 22 Public Road East Zorg, where the lush landscapes and rich biodiversity remind me daily of our country’s natural beauty. I am deeply connected to my roots and cherish the warmth of our diverse culture, celebrated through our festivals, delicious local foods like pepperpot and roti, and the harmonious blending of traditions from various ethnic groups.
As a member of the Guyanese diaspora, I often find joy in sharing our culture with others, whether it's discussing the significance of our national landmarks like the Kaieteur Falls or celebrating the accomplishments of notable figures like Letitia Wright. I believe that everyone should learn about Guyana, just as I learned about the world beyond our borders. I often laugh at how outsiders mispronounce our unique place names and words, just like I see in comments from those discovering Guyana for the first time!
In my daily life, I strive to embody the spirit of community that defines us. As we say in Guyana, “Everyone takes part in everyone’s traditions and customs,” and I take pride in being an ambassador of our rich heritage. Pomeroon-Supenaam lies on the Atlantic coast northwest of Georgetown. Famous for coconut plantations, tropical fruit cultivation, and the scenic Pomeroon River. Anna Regina serves as the regional capital.
