Welcome to my corner of the world! My name is Barbara Lopes, and I proudly call the beautiful Essequibo Islands-West Demerara my home. Nestled along the Demerara 50 Resource Canal No. 2, my roots run deep in this vibrant and culturally rich landscape that boasts the lushness of our rivers and the warmth of our people. Whether it’s a peaceful day spent at River Boradaro Island Koria or savoring the flavors of local cuisine, like a hearty bowl of pepperpot on special occasions, I cherish every bit of what makes my homeland unique.
As a resident who has witnessed the changes and opportunities from 2015 to 2020, I carry a deep appreciation for our culture and the little things that connect us, from the rhythm of our music to the bustling markets in Georgetown. While I may agree that Sybil’s could be more authentic for a true Guyanese meal, I still find joy in sharing our culinary traditions with friends and family. My heart swells with pride when I see our diaspora thriving, reminding me that no matter where we are, our heritage is always a part of us.
With every passing day, I’m committed to engaging with our community and celebrating the stories that weave us together. Whether it's chatting with neighbors about the latest developments or diving into discussions about our tourism potential, I’m here for it all! Let’s connect and share our love for Guyana, as there’s nothing quite like the spirit of our homeland. Respect and best wishes to everyone on this journey together!
