Hello! I’m BasMattie Fredericks, a proud resident of the vibrant Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana. Living on the Coast 13 Public Road in Reliance, I am deeply connected to the rich cultural heritage that our land embodies. From the lush greenery to the soulful rhythms of our diverse music, there’s a unique beauty in every corner of our community. We might be the only English-speaking country in South America, but our heart beats in harmony with the Caribbean spirit through our participation in CARICOM and the warmth of our people.
As a Guyanese, I relish the flavors of our traditional cuisine, particularly the beloved pepperpot—though I may skip the labba! Our food is a celebration of our Indian, African, and indigenous influences, with dishes like egg balls and stew holding a special place in my heart. Beyond the culinary delights, I take pride in sharing our stories and experiences with the diaspora, reminding everyone of the paradise we call home. Whether we’re discussing the beauty of the Essequibo River or the vibrant festivals that light up our communities, there’s always a connection that ties us back to our roots.
