Greetings! I’m Baydewattie Deotadeen, a proud housewife from the vibrant community of Fleece Essequibo Coast, nestled along the picturesque Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana. My heart lies deeply within our rich culture, from the fragrant aroma of pepperpot simmering on the stove to the sweet sound of chutney music filling the air during family gatherings. I cherish the warmth of our people and the colorful celebrations that unite us, reflecting our diverse heritage that includes Indo-Guyanese, Afro-Guyanese, and Indigenous influences.

As a devoted mother and wife, I find joy in sharing our traditional recipes with my family, ensuring that our children grow up appreciating the tastes of home. Whether it's a Sunday meal of curry or a festive occasion featuring bake and fish, I strive to keep our culinary traditions alive. I often reminisce about our lush landscapes, from the majestic Kanuku Mountains to the serene banks of the Essequibo River, which remind me of the beauty that surrounds us. It’s crucial to me that my children understand where they come from, especially as we navigate life in the diaspora where some may not even recognize our country's name, as noted by many of our fellow Guyanese abroad.

Although I spend much of my time at home, I stay connected with our diaspora community, sharing stories and cultural experiences that help us remember our roots. In a world where the struggles of our people often go unnoticed, I aim to amplify our voices and the unique aspects of Guyanese life.
