About BEATRICE ABRAMS

About Beatrice Abrams

Hello! I’m Beatrice Abrams, a dedicated teacher based in the vibrant community of 05 Public Road Reliance in Pomeroon-Supenaam, Guyana. Having grown up amidst the lush landscapes and rich cultural heritage of our beloved homeland, I cherish the connection we have with the river systems that nourish our way of life, from the tranquil Pomeroon River to the lively settlements like Karawab and Rockstone. My love for teaching goes beyond the classroom; it’s about nurturing curiosity and helping my students connect with their roots, much like I did with the stories of our ancestors.

In Guyana, we celebrate our diversity through food, festivals, and our sheer resilience. Whether it’s enjoying a hearty plate of pepperpot during the holidays or sipping on a glass of golden El Dorado Rum with friends, these traditions remind us of who we are and where we come from. I often share these experiences with my students, emphasizing the importance of our Caribbean connection and the unique blend of cultures that define us—because, yes, geographically we may sit in South America, but culturally we are proud to be part of the Caribbean family.

As I engage with the diaspora community and those who have left our beautiful country, I understand the mixed emotions surrounding the journey away from home. Each story holds the weight of our shared experiences, and I aim to instill in my students a sense of pride and belonging, whether they’re exploring the vibrant streets of Georgetown or the quiet beauty of the River Hooboodie Settlement. Together, we celebrate the fresh flavors of our homeland and the enduring spirit of the Guyanese people.
