Hello! My name is Bevon Williams, and I proudly call River Waiwaro Kabakaburi in the Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana my home. As a miner, I spend my days working in one of the country’s vital industries, contributing to the rich natural resources that our land offers. Guyana isn’t just a place for me; it’s the heart of my culture, where the rhythms of reggae and soca fill the air, and the aromas of pepper pot and curry duck waft from kitchens, reminding me of the warmth of my family and community.
Growing up amidst the lush landscapes and vibrant traditions, I have developed a strong sense of identity tied to the diverse heritage of our people. Whether it’s attending festivities celebrating our Indigenous, African, Chinese, and East Indian heritage or enjoying a good meal of fried rice and chicken at a local eatery, I cherish the connections that bind us all. Many may debate whether Guyana is part of the Caribbean or South America, but to me, it’s a unique blend of cultures that creates a mosaic of experiences.
