About BHARRAT SANCHARRIE

About Bharrat Sancharrie

Hello! My name is Bharrat Sancharrie, and I’m proud to call the Essequibo Coast my home. Nestled in the heart of Pomeroon-Supenaam, I spend my days working as a farmer, cultivating the rich land that has been passed down through generations. From the sweet, juicy fruits of my orchards to the diverse vegetables that grace our tables, I take immense pride in producing fresh, local food for my community. Our culture is deeply intertwined with the land, and every harvest reminds me of the resilience and strength of our people.

The Essequibo region is a treasure trove of natural beauty, dotted with vibrant villages like Lower Pom River and Dutch Quarter. Here, the sounds of nature blend with the laughter of neighbors, as we gather to celebrate our heritage with traditional meals, like pepperpot and cook-up rice. I often reminisce about the stories shared at the riverbanks, the same waters that connect us to family and friends in the diaspora. Even when my loved ones are far away, they carry a piece of our culture, from the songs of our ancestors to the flavors of our beloved dishes.

As I continue my journey in farming, I hold onto the belief that we are all stewards of this land and its traditions. I am committed to not only nurturing the crops but also fostering a sense of community and pride among us. Whether you're from Guyana or part of our global family, I invite you to share in the warmth and richness of our culture. Together, we can keep the spirit of our homeland alive, no matter where we are in the world.
