Hello! My name is Bhawanie Beharry, and I proudly call Belle Plaine in the Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana my home. As a farmer, I am deeply connected to the land and the vibrant community that surrounds me. Growing up in this beautiful country, I’ve come to appreciate the rich diversity of cultures and traditions that make Guyana unique, from our delicious local dishes like pepperpot and cook-up rice to the spectacular sights of our natural wonders like Kaieteur Falls.
The warmth of our people is something that resonates with anyone who visits. I often hear from friends and family in the diaspora, who say, "Guyanese people always know how fi throw down inna di kitchen!" It's true! Whether it's sharing a meal or celebrating a cultural festival, our culinary heritage is a source of pride and connection for all Guyanese, no matter where they are in the world. I love exchanging recipes and stories with those who have left our shores but still hold Guyana close to their hearts.
As I continue to work on my farm, I remain committed to preserving our natural beauty and promoting sustainable practices. My hope is to inspire others, both locally and in the Guyanese diaspora, to appreciate and protect our environment. After all, it's our lush landscapes and vibrant communities that define us.
