Greetings from Essequibo! My name is Bhisam Dhaniram, and I proudly call the beautiful Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana my home. Nestled along the Pomeroon River, this area is known for its stunning landscapes, rich biodiversity, and vibrant communities. Growing up surrounded by the lush greenery and the lively rhythms of our local culture has profoundly shaped who I am. Whether it's enjoying a plate of fresh pepperpot during the holidays or gathering with family and friends for a fishing trip, these experiences are at the heart of my roots.
As a resident of Essequibo, I cherish the warmth and hospitality that define our people. You can often find me at local markets, where the colorful stalls overflow with fresh produce and spices, ready to be transformed into mouthwatering dishes. I believe in the importance of food safety, which is why I always advocate for using gloves and keeping our meals covered—just like our ancestors taught us. My connection to my culture is strong, and I take pride in sharing it with others, whether through culinary experiences or inviting friends to explore our breathtaking natural scenery.
Though I now live in Philadelphia, I maintain close ties with the Guyanese diaspora. The stories we share and the memories of our homeland keep us united, regardless of where we are. I often reminisce about the Pomeroon River and its serene beauty, from the Piraka Creek to the charming villages like St. Monica and Karawab. These connections inspire me to share the essence of my culture, bridging the gap between my two homes.
Pomeroon-Supenaam lies on the Atlantic coast northwest of Georgetown. Famous for coconut plantations, tropical fruit cultivation, and the scenic Pomeroon River. Anna Regina serves as the regional capital.
