Hello! My name is Bibi Zahmudin, and I am proud to call the Essequibo Coast my home, specifically the vibrant Richmond Housing area in Pomeroon-Supenaam. Growing up surrounded by the lush landscapes of Guyana, I cherish the rich culture and traditions that shape our community. From the rhythmic sounds of the kites as they soar above the Pomeroon River to the savory aromas of pepperpot and metemgee wafting through the air during festive occasions, each moment is a reminder of the warmth of our heritage.
As a resident of this beautiful region, I've developed a deep appreciation for the unity among our diverse populace, whether we are sharing stories of our ancestors over a plate of roti and curry or celebrating each other's festivals. The connections to our Guyanese roots are strong; even in diaspora, we maintain ties that resonate through music, food, and kinship. I often hear fellow Guyanese saying, “Go by your friends in Belize,” reminding us of the ties that continue to bind us across borders and the importance of keeping our heritage alive.
