Hello and welcome! My name is Bibi Shahiban, and I proudly call the beautiful village of Aurora on the Essequibo Coast my home. Growing up surrounded by the breathtaking landscapes of the Pomeroon-Supenaam region, I’ve developed a deep appreciation for our rich culture, vibrant community, and the mouthwatering flavors of our local cuisine. From savoring a plate of pepperpot during the holidays to enjoying fresh catch from the Essequibo River, my roots are intertwined with the traditions and stories of our people.
As a resident of Guyana, I’ve witnessed the changes and challenges our nation faces, particularly the growing disparities in access to resources. Despite these hurdles, my love for our country remains unwavering. I often reflect on the resilience of our communities, where the spirit of togetherness prevails, whether it’s gathering for a cricket match or celebrating festivals like Mashramani. I’m also proud to be part of the diaspora conversation, connecting with fellow Guyanese around the world who share our pride and passion for our homeland.
