Hello! I’m Bibi Meerza, a proud resident of East Bank Essequibo, located at Le Destin. My roots run deep in this beautiful land, where the lush greenery of Pomeroon-Supenaam meets the vibrant culture of our diverse communities. Growing up here, I’ve been fortunate to experience the richness of Guyanese traditions—from savoring a bowl of pepperpot during Christmas to enjoying the sweet tastes of fresh guava during the harvest season.
As someone who has lived in this region for most of my life, I hold dear the memories of family gatherings filled with laughter, music, and the aroma of curry wafting through the air. I often reminisce about the stunning views along the rivers, particularly the serene banks of the Pomeroon River, where I would spend lazy afternoons. These are the moments that connect us all, no matter where we find ourselves in the world. I believe it’s important to celebrate our heritage, as seen through the warmth of our people, the rhythm of our music, and the flavors of our cuisine.
Being a part of the Guyanese diaspora means carrying a piece of my home wherever I go. I cherish the connections I’ve made with fellow Guyanese, whether through shared experiences or stories that echo from the Upper Pomeroon to the bustling streets of Toronto.
