Living on Abraham Avenue, surrounded by the lush beauty of Pomeroon-Supenaam, I embrace the vibrant culture of Guyana. As a housewife, my days are filled with nurturing my family and passing down the rich traditions of our homeland. From the aromas of cook-ups and pepperpot wafting through my kitchen to the laughter shared over a plate of fresh roti and curry, I cherish every moment that connects us to our roots.
My heart is enriched by the tales of our ancestors, and I often find joy in sharing stories that highlight our diverse heritage, blending Indigenous, African, Indian, and European influences. I believe it’s essential to celebrate our unique flavors and customs, whether it's gathering for festivals like Mashramani or enjoying a serene day by the Essequibo River. Through these experiences, I aim to instill a sense of pride and belonging in the younger generations, reminding them of the warmth of our community.
Though I may not be in the bustling city, I remain connected to the global Guyanese diaspora. I love hearing about friends and family who have ventured abroad, sharing their experiences and reminiscences of home, whether it’s the taste of Sybil’s famous dishes or the sound of our local music echoing through the streets. It’s this bond that keeps our culture alive, no matter where we are in the world.
Pomeroon-Supenaam lies on the Atlantic coast northwest of Georgetown. Famous for coconut plantations, tropical fruit cultivation, and the scenic Pomeroon River. Anna Regina serves as the regional capital.
