Greetings! I’m Brenda Banwarie, proudly hailing from the vibrant Essequibo Coast in the Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana. Growing up amidst the lush greenery and the flowing rivers, I’ve always had a deep appreciation for our rich culture, from the spirited sounds of our parades to the mouthwatering dishes like pepperpot and cook-up rice that grace our tables during family gatherings. My roots run deep, intertwined with the stories of those who came before me, and I carry that heritage with pride wherever I go.
As an ex-pat, I often reflect on the beauty of our homeland and the challenges we face. Like many Guyanese, I sometimes find myself longing for the days when our streets were filled with laughter and our communities thrived, despite the struggles we encounter. I believe that the oil wealth could pave the way for better social services—much needed for us to truly thrive. Yet, in the face of adversity, the resilience of the Guyanese spirit shines through, connecting us all, whether we are in Guyana or scattered across the globe.
Through my work, I aim to highlight not only the unique aspects of our beloved nation but also to foster connections within the diaspora. Guyana may not have a million people, but the strength of our community is unmatched. Whether it’s through supporting local initiatives or sharing our culture with the world, I’m dedicated to being a part of the positive change we all wish to see for our beautiful Guyana.
