Greetings! My name is Bruce Gordon, and I proudly call Wakenaam my home, nestled in the picturesque Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana. As a dedicated farmer, I cultivate the rich lands that have nurtured generations of my family. When I’m not tending to my crops, you can find me sharing stories of the River Cocorite Landing, a cherished spot that holds memories of fishing trips and community gatherings that echo the unique spirit of our culture.
The vibrancy of Guyanese cuisine is a huge part of my life. Whether it's savoring the spicy flavors of a doubles from Aneil’s Roti Shop in Queens or enjoying a hearty bowl of pepperpot at home, food has a way of bringing us together, no matter where we are in the world. It’s a reminder of our roots and the warmth of our community, especially among the diaspora who keep our traditions alive, no matter the distance.
As I connect with fellow Guyanese around the globe, I often reflect on how our heritage shapes us. From the lush landscapes of Upper Pomeroon River to the bustling streets of New York, we are bound by the stories of our homeland. While we may be far from home, the love for our culture and its richness keeps our hearts connected to Guyana and each other.
Pomeroon-Supenaam lies on the Atlantic coast northwest of Georgetown. Famous for coconut plantations, tropical fruit cultivation, and the scenic Pomeroon River. Anna Regina serves as the regional capital.
