Greetings! I'm Calvin Peters, a proud resident of Burnette Street on the Essequibo Coast in the beautiful Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana. Growing up surrounded by the lush landscapes of our country, I’ve developed a deep appreciation for our rich cultural heritage. From savoring the unique flavors of our local Chinese cuisine—arguably the best in the Caribbean—to enjoying the vibrant celebrations of Diwali and Mashramani, my life is a blend of traditions that speak to our diverse roots.
As someone who identifies strongly with my South American heritage, I often find myself defending Guyana’s unique position in the world. While some may place us in the Caribbean, I see us firmly anchored in the heart of South America. Our geography is as rich as our history, with landmarks like the majestic Essequibo River shaping not only our land but our identity as well. I believe that understanding where we come from is essential, and I take pride in sharing the stories and experiences that connect our communities both at home and within the diaspora.
