Hello! I’m Caren John, a proud resident of Anna Regina in the beautiful Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana. There's something truly special about gathering with friends and family to share a plate of fried rice and curry, where every meal tells a story of our heritage.
As a member of the Guyanese diaspora, I often reflect on the resilience and warmth of our people. Many may associate Guyana with Jonestown, but there's so much more to our identity. Our rivers, like the Pomeroon and Macrubishi, are the lifeblood of our communities, offering a sense of tranquility and connection to our lush landscape. I cherish the memories of riverbank picnics and the laughter shared with loved ones, which continue to shape my perspective and connection to my roots.
Living in Anna Regina has given me a front-row seat to the beauty of our cultural diversity—a blend of Indigenous, African, Indian, and European influences that make Guyana a unique gem in the Caribbean. Though I now find myself far from home, every interaction reminds me of the importance of staying connected with my origins and celebrating the spirit of our people, no matter where life takes me.
