Hello! I'm Carl Courtman, a proud Guyanese miner residing at 147 Western Street New in the beautiful Pomeroon-Supenaam region. Growing up surrounded by the lush landscapes and vibrant communities of Guyana, I've developed a deep appreciation for our rich culture, from the rhythmic beats of our folk music to the mouthwatering flavors of our local dishes, like pepperpot and fried plantain. There's truly nothing like gathering around a table with family, sharing stories and enjoying the deliciousness that comes straight from our land.
As I navigate my career in mining, I carry with me the spirit of resilience that characterizes our people. It's no secret that despite the wealth generated from our oil resources, many of us still face challenges. I often reflect on the camaraderie of my fellow Guyanese, and how we continue to strive for better living conditions and opportunities for everyone. Whether it’s helping a neighbor with a project or contributing to community initiatives, I believe in lifting each other up, just like the friendships formed along the Pomeroon River.
Living in Guyana is a unique experience, and I take pride in being a part of the diaspora that connects us to the wider world. Many of us have ventured far but always hold a piece of our homeland in our hearts.
