Hello! My name is Carl Weeks, and I am a proud Guyanese diver hailing from the beautiful Essequibo side of the Line Dam in Pomeroon-Supenaam. Growing up amidst the lush landscapes and vibrant waters of Guyana, I developed a deep appreciation for the natural beauty that surrounds us. The Essequibo River, with its rich biodiversity, serves as both a playground and a sanctuary for my adventures beneath the waves. Whether I’m exploring the depths of our rivers or sharing a plate of delicious pepperpot with friends, I cherish every moment spent in my homeland.
As a member of the Guyanese diaspora, I often reflect on the unique blend of cultures that makes our nation special. From the sounds of the tassa drums echoing through the streets during Mashramani to the tantalizing aromas of cook-up rice wafting through the air, our traditions are a part of me. Living away from home, I am grateful for the connections I’ve made with fellow Guyanese around the world, from New Zealand to Little Guyana in the U.S. Each interaction reminds me of our shared pride and resilience, and I strive to keep our culture alive in every conversation.
